My iMac is having problems deleting things of Macintosh HD

My mac has been having problems deleting things off the hard drive. I'll delete the file from Macintosh HD, but it will still be showing up. For example, I try and click on the document after it has been deleted and it gives me a message saying: The Alias "(insert title here)" could not be opened, because the original item could not be found. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? 🙂
 
You've created alias's to a file. then you delete the file and the alias won't find the file ?

Delete the alias.
