I've devised a very simple script to end all your woes for Automatic Termination. It works in both Lion and Mountain Lion, and was written in applescript, so it should be easy to modify :]

Quite simple, just launch it and select enable or disable. Restart applications that use Automatic Termination for it to take effect. Enjoy!

EDIT: Use the Notification Center theming tool instead- works better, and it's not just a script.
