Maps now, search engine next

Google moved into the OS market it only makes sense now that Apple is cashed up enough to develop their own mapping that they go the rest of the way and set up a search engine division. (if they haven't already done so)

Siri is not a search engine though. It feeds text into search engines based on the interpretation it does of your spoken words.

The search engine is presumed to be Wolfram Alpha.

I am using the term loosely. It is a "search engine" in that it is taking searches away from Google.

It's a front-end. For all we know, some of the searches could even be straight to Google. It does pop up Google for me about all the time :

"I don't know anything about that, want to search the Web for it ?" and saying yes pops up Safari straight into Google.

Heck, I'd say Siri can't answer a damn question I ask it. Really a worthless product to me, not that I didn't try to like it.

The problem is, Siri is sort of rubbish at finding what you want, whereas Google is good.

Google is good if you know what you want. It also spits out a lot of irrelevant data.

Actually, I'd say it's really sucking even if you know exactly what you want.

Over the last few months, I'm seeing an extremely strong trend on Google's part to serve up search results that do not include my search terms. Either the terms are altered ("Did you mean XYZ?") or ignored entirely.

As a prototypical example, searching for a common product AND another key word to narrow things down is increasingly just returning search results for the product string. None of the results include the secondary key word.

I see similar things on Google maps. Some restaurants are shown, now, increasingly, others are not. Did they not pay bounty to Google? Why are they not there?

Less and less happy with Google every month, week, day and even hour.
