I have a 1st generation MacBook Air (I know, so far from the ones just announced!) running OS X 10.6.8. The audio input isn't working with either the built-in mic OR a set of iPhone headphones with mic. When I go into System Preferences -> Sound and slide the input volume bar up and down, nothing happens with the input level indicator except a weird intermittent flickering of some of the bars. I've tried recording sound in both Skype and PhotoBooth, and neither works.

I don't think this is a hardware issue because it's happening with both the built-in mic and a headphone mic. Audio output is fine. How can I fix this?? I'm out of the country for the summer and this really throws a wrench into my Skype plans! Thanks.
