Shouldn't it show the most recently added songs first? It is totally backwards, it has them ordered from oldest to newest. When you go to the Recently Added songs you usually want to hear the songs you just added. I have to scroll alllllllllll the way down through a bunch of songs to get to my new music. Is there a way to reverse this? Very annoying.

Also, would I have to download a new music app to reverse the order?

Why "should" it? I'd expect it in the order you describe.

Because the playlist is called "Recently Added", therefore it should be in order of most recently added.

Why would you expect it to be backwards?

I had this problem for the longest time and it was extremely annoying but I found an article online stating how to fix it.

In iTunes, right click on the Recently Added playlist and select Edit Smart Playlist. Then check the box that says Limit to... and change it to look like this

Limit to [insert a large number] "items" selected by "most recently added".

The large number just needs to be big enough so you will never have more than that many songs in Recently Added. I have mine set at 5000.

This should fix the problem.
