Help, my friend recently bought a 400mhz G4 powermac. He got a nice deal. However, he needs a monitor.

He says, "I’m all messed up on what kind of monitor to get. What will work with the G4? It has a DVI monitor port (slot 1: AGP) and a VGA port."

What should he buy?

A lot of people like the Dell flat LCD's here....

Best Buy has a lot of cheapo LCD's, which work fine for non color sensitive work...

What is your friend planning on using his PM for?

He had an CRT iMac 350mhz with OS 9. He makes movies with his handicam. He wanted something faster and with some DVD burning ability. He will be making DVDs. The powermac he purchased is loaded with pro applications and hardware upgrades. I am sure he will be impressed by OS X. He has been using OS 9 forever. I think price is the major consideration.

If he just wants to get by he can use the crt out of that imac. I've separated the imac from the crt myself on a 333mhz imac.

If your friend does not want to plunk down the $$$ for an ACD, then try a LCD from ViewSonic (they make very, very good LCD monitors).

I recommend the Dell 20" or 24" widescreen LCDs ... I don't have much experience with the smaller models.

For 15" or 17" LCDs, Samsung LCDs are quite nice.
