iBook Login Tiger makes screen turn off, CD revs then display back on

Ok, I recently started to have this problem. But when I put my computer to sleep and I wake it up - when I login the screen turns off, next thing I know you hear the CD-ROM drive rev up like it's restarting, but then the screen comes back on. - Its my iBook G3 in my siggy. I'm running OS X.4.0
