I just got my brand new Macbook Pro Retina today and after a few hours of use, I noticed a light spot in the mid-lower left side of the screen. It only shows up if there is a light color (white) in the background of the screen. It's a cloudy light spot. This pisses me off because such expensive products should not have these kind of problems. Does anyone else with a new MBP retina have the same issue? I don't feel like returning it yet because I need to do some work on it. I might stop by the apple store this weekend if I have time. Did anyone experience this with the previous Macbook models? Please help

Can you take a picture and post it?

Writing from a Retina MBP. There is no light spot in the background. I checked with a pure white image in full screen and everything looks normal, every part of the screen is at the same brightness level...
Sorry, you have a defective model :(

Someone else posted an image with this issue, too. I would ask for a replacement.

sorry that the quality isnt that good. You can see a small dot but it looks worse in real life. it is very visible in the start-up screen

I sincerely appreciate the early adopters who buy new Apple technology as soon as it hits the stores...

Me? I'm going to wait a good long time until all the bugs have been worked out. At this point I don't see the point of spending the extra $$$ on a Retina MBP.

I know the haters will jump on this post but I completely agree.

I have been burned in the past by being an early adopter with Apple gear. People have short memories when it comes to this kind of stuff.

I also think that we'll see some added features in Gen 2 that makes waiting even more enticing.

I got a MBPR. I think it the 4th thing I've gotten from Apple gen one when it was brand new... one one I ever had even a minor problem with. A lot of people complain about 1st gen stuff... its either blown out of context, or I'm just extremely lucky.

Yep, it's never good to be an early adopter, especially of Apple products. They're notorious for having lots of problems. Especially the screens.

That's caused by pressure being applied to the back of the screen, and it can only be fixed by replacing the screen. Interesting that you're the third person to have this problem on a brand new RMBP.

Definitely contact Apple asap and get a replacement.

Wow, that's really a bummer. Hope you get it taken care of quickly. It seems every new iteration has some issues. In all fairness there are many happy users out there that have no problems at all. Wanted to pull the trigger on a new unit but the way my luck runs I'd get one that had some problem.

I have the same problem, my screen has three of those marks.

Apple are replacing, but no idea how long that will take. Order status on replacement says 3-4 weeks although support have assured me it won't be that long.

I posted about it here https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=15069447#post15069447

----------

I wanted to add, I am testing all of my software so I need to have the Retina machine around for work. I explained this to support and (after signing a waiver) they have let me keep this faulty one until the replacement arrives. I hope that info helps.

That sucks man, good thing is you have 2 weeks to get it replaced. And demand a replacement not a fix.

I have three splotches on my new retina screen as well! :( I don't want to be without a computer for weeks, so I may hold out before taking it into the apple store. I wonder if this is something they could fix overnight in the store, like just replacing the entire screen on the computer. I don't want them to think that this is user inflicted damage though if I decide to wait.

----

Do you think that they would acknowledge my issue if I take it in tomorrow, but allow me to continue using it until they can repair it in a timely manner?

I have the same thing on mine as well. Is this due to pressure placed on the screen or a lcd defect?

If you've just received your new Retina MacBook it might be worth checking the screen like this https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1043974/Screencasts/Andrew Kendall Retina MacBook Screen Test.mov as the marks don't show up that well against the default background.

Thanks for that, I've just checked my own Macbook's screen and it doesn't look like there's any of the white marks that's mentioned in this thread thankfully.

There were several black dots which scared the living daylights out of me but luckily it was just a bit of dust :p

I think it's pressure, seems to be quite a few people with the same problem now. Looking at other people's photos it always seems to be in about the same place too.

I think it's best to tell them quickly. I was on the phone 15 minutes after the thing arrived! You'll probably have to sign something, but they should let you keep it until they can supply a replacement. That's what's happening with me anyway.

Support initially told me I wouldn't have to wait long for a new machine, but after a few days they emailed to say wait time on replacement is about 4 weeks.

I spent 2 hours on the phone with them yesterday and they are now shipping me a new computer. They are allowing me to keep mine and ship it once the new one gets here and they are not charging me a dime!

So I'm one of the unlucky ones as well.

Fortunately I got connected to a senior support specialist right away who is connected to Apple's engineering department.

Replacement machine will be sent (couldn't give me an estimate on when) and mine will be sent back to Apple for testing.

However mine are not bright splotches, it is an opaque dark spot and looks like a smudge.

Further research indicates it might be an LCD Mura defect

Here is an album with pictures of my screen.

It's a new type of screen in a new type of laptop.

Even with good quality control, some faulty screens might slip through.

Apple knows that, and I'm sure you won't have trouble getting a replacement.

You paid a lot of money and deserve a screen without flaws.

Don't suffer... exchange.

PS: we also don't know how this display will hold up over the years. Another reason why Applecare is a MUST on this model. You may need a new screen fourteen months from now.

I had a thread about this yesterday, and mine was in the same location, lower left hand side. It's a pressure mark and no it should not come brand new like that. You just paid $2200, screen should be flawless. It was the first thing I noticed when i started up safari. I took it to the Apple Store today and they did an exchange for a new one.

Check out the threads and pics, looks exactly like mine. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1392562/
