HELP: Black bars on left and right side of screen at resolution of 2560x1440

For some reason my Macbook Air is outputting 2560x1440 to my Dell U2711 however on the screen I have a black bar on the left and right side? Shouldn't that resolution fit the whole screen? What am I doing wrong?
