Why wouldn't Apple, and every other router manufacturer, be planning to produce next generation wireless products?

They are. There have been plenty of reports that Apple will be adopting AC for all their laptops and routers/access points soon. Unfortunately, when is always the question....

My question was rhetorical, as manufacturers have no reason NOT to produce next generation routers in due time :)

Oh you know what. I did some reading further into this after I posted. I'm not worried.

Apple along with everyone else will be producing products with these next gen wireless specs down the road. I didn't realize that this was the first next gen router.

Pretty soon there will be a flooded market of routers that are 802.11ac.

Then I will be happy to possibly buy the Apple version of this when the time comes.
