hey every1,
Im in the market for a PM, and i came across a used dual 2.5. What are the differences between the older 2.5 and the new dual 2.3 and 2.7s? How do they differ in hardware specs and speed? Any info you can provide me with would be quite helpful!

Thanks,
-Zach

EDIT: been comparing the specs and it seems everything is the same with the exception of a 900mhz FSB instead of a 1.13/1.25ghz FSB. How much will that affect performance? And will the extra CPU speed offset that?

I dont have one of these, but off the top of my head...

The new one has a max of 4GB RAM, the old ones 8, or something like that...

Also the new PM has dual layer DVD writer

The frontside bus speed of the Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5 is 1.25 GHz

Dual 2.3 GHz PowerPC G5 as a 1.15 GHz frontside bus

Dual 2.7 GHz PowerPC G5 as a 1.35 GHz frontside bus

So pretty much if i could get an unopened dual 2.5 for less than a dual 2.3 i should go for it?

yes.

I own one, they were the highest end PMs a few months ago and there is really no difference between them and the 2.7s.
