Vertical lines of different shades on 4S

My daughter dropped her iPhone 4S and the phone landed on it's back, different shades of vertical lines are now shown on the screen..
The phone will not switch OFF and when connected to the computer a message says cannot connect to iPhone. Please help

I have some very bad news for you: the LCD is broken. Sorry.
