I have a new 2.3 GHz 8 GB rMBP that is 72 hours out of the box. I have loaded approximately 16 GB of photos and a few iPhone videos on it. Emptying the trash takes SO much longer than my model year 2007 MBP. Deleting 70 photographs from the SSD takes more than three minutes. WTF? Is this the ugly downside of SSD?

You may have "Secure Empty Trash" enabled.

Thank you! I don't remember checking that box, but then I can't remember what I had for breakfast. It empties swiftly, now (wipes brow).
