Strange Macbook Noise

I turned my Macbook on today and noticed it was making this odd noise. Sort of a chirping noise. I have been running it kinda hard lately and dropped it about four inches on its right side near the power button right after I turned it off last. I don't have much money and I really need to have it with me, so I thought I should ask around before taking it in. I noticed it has

I tried restarting it and repairing permissions and what not.

Recorded from Photo Booth on my 13 inch Macbook.*
Made in early 2009.
Version 10.5.8
Processor: 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

To be honest, I do have a couple of things in mind but I'm not sure which one it could be.
Most likely I would assume it would be the HDD or the Superdrive. You might want to try a program like Drive Genius and see what is says about your drive.
It could be something wrong with the superdrive.
Have you turned the speakers down completely? If the noise only comes on when your speakers are on its probably just a sound.
Do you hear it when you are using a particular program?

First off, thank you for replying.

The HDD and the Superdrive, eh? Those sound really expensive... Do you think I should just take it in and have them look at it instead of buying Drive Genius and then taking it in?

Yeah, I have tried muting my speaker but it still make that sound.

The first time I usually hear it is a few seconds after I push the power button.

Edit: "I don't think it's the Superdrive, because I have been burning some DVD as a backup just in case. Or does the Superdrive not handle DVD/CD?"

Both the HDD and Superdrive are affordable components and I wouldn't recommend getting Apple to fix them if they are damaged as they will charge significantly more.

I would say, get it checked by Apple, or someone who provides similar services, see what the problem is. If it's the superdrive of HDD then that's simple to replace. If it's the logic board (also likely) then that can cost up to $1000.

When you find out what the problem is, get this if it's a problem with the HDD- http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Momen...8346&sr=8-1&keywords=250gb+hard+drive+5400rpm
Or get this if it's a problem with the Superdrive- http://www.amazon.com/MacBook-GSA-S...1342088600&sr=1-3&keywords=Macbook+superdrive

Wow thanks. Why wouldn't you recommend letting them fix it? Wouldn't you need some special tools to replace those and risk messing something up? Last repair was both the Inverter board and cable. They replaced both of those and charged $39 labor. I have heard that they charge $91 usually. What was up with that?

I presume it's the white/black macbook then?
If it looks like this and it's a single panel on the back, this is how easy it is to replace- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiAqmkjv_Fc

If it isn't a single panel, then this is how you do it (still very simple) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFGm1_gY-Y0


Replacing the optical drive- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8l151W_girY&feature=related


All you'd need is a Torx screwdriver, phillips head screwdriver and a spudger. In place of a spudger, I use a credit card because it's plastic and works just as well.

Apple always charge a lot more than it costs you to do it yourself but if you think it's to much of a risk, pay them to do it. If things go wrong and it breaks because of them, they replace it. If things go wrong and it breaks because of you, that's it.

I just got it back today and as it turned out, it was my fan making that noise. I have had it back for about a little over an hour and still no noise. So I guess that clears that up.

That's good.
I've heard that sometimes it's just the fan bracket that has come loose and just needs to be tightened.
