iCloud backup... when restoring are movies, music, etc., restored as well?

Hi,

I've a few questions about iCloud backup... if anyone knows the answers:

1) Does it backup movies, music or books that weren't bought from Apple? From what I can tell, at least for movies and music, the answer is no. You'll lose that content after restoring, correct? And is this true of books as well?

If that's true couldn't one accidentally erase a lot of information thinking that everything is backed up? Or does iOS let you know that your non-Apple media won't be backed up?

2) Does it only backup your movies, music, books, etc., if your country supports re-downloading that content for free? e.g, in Australia, iTunes in the Cloud only lets you re-download music, TV shows, books and apps. Unlike in the U.S, where you can also re-download movies.

Would appreciate some any insight on the matter. Thanks.

Apart from pics, contacts, doc etc, to my knowledge icloud only backups up items purchased through apple. There is a pay for iTunes music match service for iCloud which is cool, but you need two things, one music has to be purchased from iTunes and two a pc/Mac, this isn't good if you only use iOS devices (like me!).

See iCloud under settings, it lists whats being uploaded/backed up/shared. As for video unsure don't use it. Pics are another story/debacle that won't labour you with.

Cheers

Thanks for your reply. Actually you don't need music bought from Apple for iTunes match to work, it'll match your other music too -- if it can.

-no. not for movies, not for music, not for books. they dont backup for any of those. for apple or not.

If that's true couldn't one accidentally erase a lot of information thinking that everything is backed up? Or does iOS let you know that your non-Apple media won't be backed up?

-actually, how did you get the movies, music, and books (non Apple) inside, in the first place?
with the same way how you placed it in, via iTunes (software) - the same way you put it back in, after a restore.

2) Does it only backup your movies, music, books, etc., if your country supports re-downloading that content for free? e.g, in Australia, iTunes in the Cloud only lets you re-download music, TV shows, books and apps. Unlike in the U.S, where you can also re-download movies.

-doesn't backup. just only available on iCloud.
yea, then it's too bad. you can't redownload them again.
Ringtones can't be redownloaded |: - but ringtones are backup-able on iCloud.
