Export iPhoto albums to external hard drive

I am having some problems with iPhoto, and i hope that you guys can help me.

Basically i am trying to copy all my iPhoto albums onto an external hard drive, while keeping the photos in the albums. When i try to export from iPhoto to a new folder, the photos get all messed up and are not saved into individual folders. Is there an easy way to do this, so that i don't have to spend lots of hours doing it manually? And yes, i did search the forums and watched several videos on youtube, but nothing has worked for me.
Btw my os is lion and i am using iPhoto 09 version 8.1.2 (424)
