Monitor for use with MBP Retina, new 13" Air and 2007 MBP 15"

You will need a multi-input monitor that runs maximum of 1920X1200 resolution. Assuming you don't want to shell out about $100 for a mini-dp to dual dvi adaptor.

An old monitor like a HP 2475w with an IPS screen will suit your need. With multi-input, you don't have to unplug from an attached macbook to connect to another. DP on the HP monitor might not work for macbooks, but DVI certainly does for me.

You will need the mini-dp to DVI adaptors. Don't know about the output on the 2007 MBP.

You wont need any adaptors if you get a display with DisplayPort and DVI.

The 2007 MacBook Pro has DVI, any decent monitor within the last 5 years will have that.
For the Air and rMBP, you can use a miniDisplayPort to DisplayPort lead if the monitor has DP, otherwise an mDP to DVI adaptor will suffice.

I'm quite fond of my U2122HM (VGA, DVI, DP), it's only e-IPS but it still looks pretty good to me, pretty cheap too [link].

What about resolution? A 1920x1200 (or HD) monitor is fine for the rMBP but will the lower output MBP and Air produce jaggies or stretching or other artifacts?

All these computers will support up to 2560x1440 on an external 16:9 monitor and will do 1920x1200 or 1080 without a problem
