I went to display to ensure I have it on, double checked to make sure we are on the same wifi but still no button in my icon bar on top.

Any help would be most appreciated.

None of my iMacs work except for my 2011 model.
I have an '09,10 and '11 and 2-non 2011 MacBooks that don't airplay.
2011 Mac Mini does, 2010 Mini doesn't

2011 i5/i7 Macs only for AirPlaying Desktop. Audio works on all models that support Mountain Lion, I believe. I'm AirPlaying audio to my AirPort Express on my 2010 Mac mini without a hitch.

Apple dropped the Display icon in the menu bar with Mountain Lion. They added an AirPlay icon, but it will only appear if you have a Mac that supports AirPlay and it is enabled in Display Preferences.
