I upgraded from 10.6 -> 10.8. In 10.6, when I opened a new window (apple-N), it just opened. Now it opens with a ~1/2 second delay, because of this annoying special effect where it grows out of the center, rectangularly.

The same thing happens when you empty the trash. The dialog box grows out of the center, instead of just appearing quickly.

It's annoying because it makes my computer feel slower. It effectively is slower if it makes me wait longer to read a dialog.

Is there some defaults settings I can override to remove this? Anyone know how to remove the special effect? Or speed it up.

I haven't installed Mountain Lion yet but you are right. At least in Lion, the full screen animations are way too slow. I don't know if there is a way to speed it up.

There's bound to be a setting somewhere, even if it involves changing something with the terminal.

There is a setting in Onyx that lets you disable this.

How to disable via terminal

defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSAutomaticWindowAnimationsEnabled -bool NO

to enable again just change the NO for a YES

--Edited

ups a little too late, it's the same solution from above /\

defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSAutomaticWindowAnimationsEnabled -bool NO

has no effect what so ever.

Also HOW DO I DISABLE THE FULL SCREEN BUTTON?
