cannot open some stock apps after update to mountain lion

So I just updated to 10.8 everything went smoothly and appears to be working well. Except that I cannot open some ilife apps such as imovie iphoto and Photo Booth (iTunes works fine)

this is the first time i'm seeing the spinning beach ball on my rmbp. help?

Open the app store & there should be hefty updates for them.
