ibook benchmarks, please...
hello
i am still thinking about to buy an ibook 12" as i waited long for this update. but i need some benchmarks before i will buy because i need to know if it is fast enough to run my own software. there are still no ibooks in german shops to do the benchmark myself. would anyone please run xbench (http://www.xbench.com/) and post the results? did anyone try maya, blender or a 3d game on the new ibooks? thanks! bjoern Last edited by bjoern_kah; Aug 3, 2005 at 03:22 AM. |

Darn man....my Quicksilver gets around 43 on Xbench. New iBooks are getting around there. Not that bad I guess.
I have a question for you guys. Did xbench change the way it measures thing (the scale of #'s). I remember getting like 120 something and comparing with other people who were getting like 80, etc. I guess xbench changed? Can someone verify this? EDIT: Nevermind, found this: Quote:

Wow, DO YOU FOLKS REALIZE HOW IMPORTANT THIS IS?! Basically, it shows that the PB 12" isnt that much faster, or am I reading things wrong here?

I don't really know anymore. I'm amazed that a 5 year old PowerMac G4 933Mhz Quicksilver is faster than a brand new updated iBook I guess. Not that I really care, my quicksilver is fast, it just amazes me how long Apple's last. Also goes to show much much longer desktops last (because they're more powerful to begin with).

Please note that if you are testing with the latest version of Xbench you will get MUCH lower numbers than with previous versions. They changed what they use for a reference point to a 2Ghz G5.

just so you know xbench is a very bad indicator of performence, obiously 3.5" HD's are faster than 2.5" HD's and xbench's graphics card tests are very very strange, they seem to favor certain cards, for example a rage 128 beats a geforce 3 :S

On a side note I benchmarked my G5 (106.94) in my signature and found that just by slightly tinkering with my graphic card's speeds (memory & vpu) I could tweak the results by a few points - so yes, xbench is not a great indicator of exact system performance, but it does at least give a rough estimate.

Anyone do a G4/800 iBook yet? I only have old XBench stats. I wonder how much the iBook has changed from the beginning to present (since people are always complaining about how slowly it gets updated).
Regarding the PB12" and iBook 12", there still seems to be an overall ~10% or more gap. That's not so insubstantial... I don't think the G4 iBook and PB have ever been 50% or 100% apart in performance.

i think the benchmark results at xbenchs overview have been updated for older models:
http://ladd.dyndns.org/xbench/csi.xh...chineTypeID=17 there are ibook 800 on the list with about 13-16. |
