"Apple's involvement squashed the underground flavor"

What?

Am I wrong that independent podcasts have seen MORE usage since podcasting was added to iTunes? More--not less?

Yes, big-name podcasts are even more popular than small ones--but that's not Apple making that choice, that's LISTENERS.

I do think having dual charts is nice idea.

I'd have to say that I listen to things based on how much it interests me not who produced it. It's not that they're being muscled out, it's that their podcast sucks. Deal with it. Stop crying like a baby because Apple doesn't force people to listen to your crappy podcast. I wouldn't mind having dual charts for the podcasts, but seriously, if you say "like," "uh," or "you know what I mean?" more than 100 times during your podcast then I probably won't listen to it after the first try. Such is the case with the Engadget podcast I just listened to, which I won't be listening to again anytime soon.

"Like, uh, totally dude, uh, uh, uh, you know what I mean."

Stab me.

BBC Radio 1's breakfast show hosted by Chris Moyles has emerged as the number one podcast in the UK, according to Apple's charts.

The transmission sits in pole position on the iTunes "Today's Top Podcasts" rating, which measures the number of subscriptions taken to a channel on a daily basis.
Ugh - Chris Moyles. We may be from the same part of the world but I go out of the way to avoid him - even to the extent of fitting a new aerial so I can tune in other stations.
They may have a point in it being taken over by the big players but it's far more democratic than traditional radio.
