So when I first started iMessages up in Mountain Lion I loved it. However that love soon died when I found some things extremely annoying. Wondering if there were any remedies.

When I would quit iMessages or just put my computer in sleep mode, once it woke back up there would be a slew of messages that would just pop up with notifications just trickling in like crazy and MMS messages trying to download but ultimately unable to. I would think that the computer would detect I already read all these messages on my phone and not bombard me with notifications.

The other thing I don't like is that there is no sense of context switching. When I'm using iMessage from my phone I want to use my phone number. When on my MBPr it should use my email. I hate that when iMessages can't come through due to service being bad they aren't sent as text message anymore it's sent as an email when I'm solely on my phone and my computer is sleep.

Does anyone know anyway to remedy these 2 situations. I want to love iMessage but this is killing my experience.

and mess with the settings. Maybe when you quit messages your status is set to away. In which you receive the emails and get bombarded with notifications.

I tried changing these settings and unfortunately got the same result when I opened my machine today. Nobody else experiences this? I can't be the only one who this bothers.

I have a feeling iMessage will improve substantially with iOS6.

What I mean to say is that certain functionality isn't there without the update on the iPhone.

Just spoke to a Senior Technical Advisor and he said this is the expected behavior for now but he agreed that this wasn't a pleasant user experience. He's going to put in a feature request with the engineers to try and get this fixed. I can see them using Power Nap to sync the messages before you wake. The only reason I could see them not doing this is if it were to significantly reduce battery.

This is normal behavior, unfortunately. When I get to my office in the morning and log into my Mac Pro, I'm bombarded with all of the iMessages I received the prior evening. Even when I close the window or quit the application, it quickly throws itself back onto the screen.

I HATE IT and have disabled my iMessage account on my desktop machines due to this totally non-Apple like behavior. It's an embarrassment, actually.
