This is a weird one, but one of my machines still running Lion (don't want to upgrade everyone yet), somehow turned on its core dumps, which I was under the impression are supposed to be off by default.
I can't think of any way that they could have been turned on.
Anyway, for those that don't know, core dumps are found under /cores on your file system (use terminal or the Go to Folder option in the finder to get there). For most users this folder should be empty, but instead mine had more than 16gb of stuff in it, which I realised when I suddenly saw the SSD on the machine only had 4gb of file-space left!
Anyone know why this might have happened?
I've added kern.coredumps=0 to /etc/sysctl.conf as a guide says to, so hopefully this will keep them turned off when I restart. But I can't figure out what turned them on, or how. Any ideas where else it might have been enabled?
