It's become a habit to wait for OS 10.X.3. That is generally when the OSX versions have stabilized and become true workhorses. Reliability in .0 and .1 has been shoddy since 10.3 hit.

The battery percentage now shows up in the menu bar again! Thank goodness for that. Also, FWIW, the menu bar claimed that I needed to service my battery when I installed ML (I never had any issues under Lion) but now upon installing 10.8.1, I'm not getting that service alert anymore - I haven't tested to see whether battery life has improved at all since 10.8.0, but still, a good sign!

Yep, had the same thing happen to me. Was trying to download the 4.34GB update, then the 7.48MB download popped up. Only took about 10 seconds to download and ask me to restart.

Fastest OS X update in history.

I tried to get a pic of the new linen screen it restarts to during the update but the only camera I had close at hand was the iPhone.

I didn't have a battery life problem on my rMPB before this update at all, in fact I got over 9 hours at a full charge. Before I installed the update i was at a 98% charge and my battery life indicator read 9:03 remaining. After the update I was at a 97% charge and my indicator read 6:18 remaining.

After the update, at 100% charge, the battery is reporting 7:33 hours left.

Not too shabby!

Edit: Now reporting 8:13 hours left! I think they slid in that battery fix.

The option to download the full OSx Mountain Lion still remains for me after update. Any idea how to get rid of it?

Can anyone confirm if functionality to check the update size before downloading the update is fixed?

I was hoping for a fix in the Mail app, but instead it got worse. Now, my emails don't show up at first, even when I manually open Mail and check it. Once I close Mail the little "1" will show up on Mail. Then I check the email and move on and about a minute later I get the email sound notification. WTH happened?!?!

Yeah, I suspected that they'd never create a line item in the release notes for a battery fix because they probably don't want to admit that it was happening in the first place (they never did, as far as I know).

I never actually experienced any battery issues on my mid-2011 Air, but good to see it fixed for those that were experiencing issues.

On it's own that doesn't indicate a problem. The time remaining is just a rough estimate and is based on the current activity of your computer. Depending on what you were running just before the update and what it running now, that alone could account for the difference. The best way to tell how long your battery will last is to actually use it until it runs out and time how long it takes. The time remaining is never very accurate, in my experience.
