A Stoned Throw From Ground Zero
It may be a while before Apple issues a full recall for these defective machines.

This defect is showing up after about 6 months in roughly 11% of the
Rev A 1.8 GHz iMacs. so far.

Apple IS replacing the defective midplane boards under warranty, but you need to know what to look for.

There are several sites covering this issue, but here are two that have good photos showing the problem.

Note the bulging tops to the capacitors.
