Cyberduck. You can download it from download.com

Keep in mind that in OS X you can just use finder...thats what I do to connect to my universities' server(s).

Basically on the freebie side it comes down to RBrowser (free unless you want the more advanced features), CyberDuck and Fetch (free if you're a student).

I use Transmit and highly recommend it, well worth ponying up the shareware fee for.

Cyberduck

I've been using Cyberduck (Check on Versiontracker) for weeks and it has been great. It's very fast and intuitive.
I find the interface to be better than fetch, but that's just a personal opinion.

I use Transmit. It seems to be the easiest out of all the ones I've tried. It gives you a left column of "your stuff" and right column for "their stuff." It is a 1 week trial but even after it expires you can still use it... it just disconnects after 10 minutes, which doesn't bother me since I'm usually just quickly uploading html, php, or flash files that don't take long at all.

I use Fugu. It's pretty awesome and supports all the secure stuff I need to update my website. (FTP thru SSH tunnel)

Plus the blow-fish icon looks slick in the dock. It's actually a frontend for OpenSSH I think, so you can do SSH terminals with handy bookmarks and stuff too.

I use /bin/ftp and Transmit.

Transmit is nice but is a bit pricey. If you're doing a lot of FTP work, though, it's worth every penny. If you're just uploading a file or two at a time, /bin/ftp works beautifully.

Another vote for Transmit. Cool Widget as well. Does everything well (including security).

And I know it isn't free, but it isn't pricey either.

My guess is Finder isn't good enough...
Have you used Finder as an FTP app? It's terrible.

I have problems connecting to half the servers I use and, even when I get connected, it's read-only.

Yeah, I use it. I find it relativly easy, but then again, the only FTP server I really use is my own 😛

Have you tried to upload anything using Finder?

Last I tried, FTP access in Finder was read-only.
