Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, died Saturday, weeks after heart surgery and days after his 82nd birthday.
His family reported the death at 2:45 p.m. ET. A statement said he died following complications resulting from cardiovascular procedures.
Armstrong commanded the Apollo 11 spacecraft that landed on the moon on July 20, 1969, and he radioed back to Earth the historic news: "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind."
He spent nearly three hours walking on the moon with fellow astronaut Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin.
From someone who grew up in his hometown (Wapakoneta). He turned his celebrity back on our community. Why should I have a good word for someone that treats people with disdain.

The man wanted his privacy and not to be worshipped. He was a true hero in a world that seems to have lost the meaning of the word.
RIP Neil.
This is sick. A man died and you are turning your back to whole thing? You're no better than him.
Nothing heroic about him. He did not build the rocket he went for a ride. He did not build the suit, he just wore it. He did not create the moon, just walked on it. Anyone could have done the exact samething he did. He just got the seat.

If you fancy a go yourself, you can get in touch with NASA here. Let us know how you get on.Anyone could have done the exact samething he did. He just got the seat.
Not enough of a challenge, I expect. If you fancy a go yourself, you can get in touch with NASA here. Let us know how you get on.

You do know who we are talking about...right? You have looked at or read any of the screen shots or quotes from news outlets?
And exactly how brave do you need to be to put your trust in all those people, to fly to another world, to walk on it and to believe you're coming home again afterwards? Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins knew there was every chance it was a one way trip. Look at Apollo 13. If that accident had happened after a moon landing, they would be dead.
Those astronauts had balls and that makes them heroes in my eyes.
