Macbook Pro running slow since upgrading to ML 10.8.1

I just upgraded from Lion and my Macbook Pro's Internet connection is dreadfully slow. I restarted my Airport Extreme router, and restarted the computer with no increase in bandwidth. My OS is 10.8.1 , I use Chrome and Safari and both browsers are slow even after emptying cache and clearing Internet history. Any ideas?
