My Macbook Air internal ssd is history it seems. Using the recovery mode I get a message stating the drive is corrupt and First Aid cannot repair it. Is it possible to somehow reformat this drive and then reload a new system? I own a thunderbolt equipped computer also if that could be of any use.

For how long do you have your MBA?

You can order a drive from OWC and repair it yourself. It even comes with the right tools and an external enclosure. This way you should be able to copy the old data from the old SSD to the new one.
