Hey guys! I've been a lurker for quite a bit of time, but now I need a bit of help and I couldn't find any answers to my question :p

So I'm planning on picking up a baseline 2012 macbook pro and giving my 2011 Macbook pro to my brother since he needs a laptop as well. I have 2x4Gb of 1333mhz ram in my 2011 Macbook and was wondering if I could just use it in the 2012 Macbook pro, and put the old 2x2Gb sticks back in the 2011 model. I'm aware the memory may not be as fast but I'm just wondering if this would work?

Thanks guys!

Yes 1333 DDR3 will work just fine. My brother reused an 8gb DDR3 1333 chip in his 2012 with no issues.

It works fine in my Macbook Pro 2012. I have a MBP early-2011 that had 16GB 1333MHz and I installed them in my MBP mid-2012.

No problem at all. I haven't seen any difference in speed except the boost I got from way more RAM.

I'll buy 1600MHz RAM when I have access to it so both MBP have 16GB (I'm in Thailand right now and the proper 1600MHz RAM is not available anywhere around here for the moment) but it sure works fine for the time being!
