[UK] iPhone 5 Trafford Centre Manchester Launch Day

Hello,

I have saved up for the iPhone 5 this year and after all the problems I had with the delivery last year, I was thinking of queuing up at the Manchester Trafford Centre Apple store and purchase the phone on the launch day. However I will be a launch day newbie, and have never queued up before. Does anyone know the procedure that usually happens on a launch day.

The Trafford Centre opens at 10 so I am wondering where you queue and what time is best. I have the day off (I am presuming it will be the 21st) and would like to get there as early as I can, but I do not want to be waiting at the wrong entrance and then having to queue again at the back once the doors open.

Anyone with any advice will be appreciated, also does anyone else going on the launch day fancies buddying up.

If the Trafford centre doors are kept locked until 10am, I would advice getting there as early as you possibly can i.e several hours before.

There is no telling which doors will be opened first. I would choose the door that is the closest to the Apple store and then sprint to it once they are opened.

When the iPhone 4 was launched I got to the store (not Trafford) about 3 hours before it was due to open, and there was already a very long queue outside. This shop was not inside a locked shopping centre though.

I'm launch day newbie too! Thinking of going to the Trafford centre to pick one up. I've never pre-ordered one so I don't know how reliable they are at delivering, but i'd like to see one first.

On the Apple site it states Apple Stores in the UK are opening at 8am on launch day, so i'd presume they'd have to open the Trafford centre doors. Although i've never been on launch day, i've seen on here before that the doors have been open early to let customers in.

I'd say the Selfridges entrance is closest?

been to the iPad 2 launch but that went on sale at 5pm so not sure what time to get there for this. I was thinking around 5am. That too early ?

If I'm honest, I was thinking of setting off around 3amish :-O I'm about 45 mins away too so get there for around 4am. not sure if that's going to be way early but I'd rather wait than have to queue up for ages after the store opens.

Perhaps I need to reconsider my 6am! I didn't think anyone would be considering 4am... Suppose I could go for 5/ half 5ish. I'd rather queue up and wait a few hours and get it on the day, the couriers round us seem pretty useless at delivering stuff.

Think I'll join you guys. I'd say the nearest door is the upper level entrance/exit next to Selfridges. Am I right?

Yeah, i'd say that's the closest one. Think i'm probably going to go for that one. Do Trafford shut the car parks during the night?

I was going to get there for 7 but I am off the whole day so I will get there for 5am as this seems the main time everyone getting there. I only live 10 mins away so should not be a problem. Does anyone bring any food or drink with them, also what do people do if they need the toliet, can they save there place in the queue.

I would pre order online but after last years problem i'm going to get it at the store. Last year the delivery company said they delivered it, when they had not, took over 10 days to resolve.

I queued for the iPhone 4 at the Trafford Center.

First of all they put signs in the car park directing you to which entrance to actually get into the center itself, if I recall correctly they didn't open the door you are showing there, but one further down the center. Then you basically head to the Apple store and join the queue.

Me and my friend got there just before 7 and joined the queue. We were done and dusted by 9:30 I think. We had free donuts and coffee from Krispy Kreme so it wasn't that bad, but still quite a long wait.

Apple did a good job on keeping it organised and only letting people into the actual store when there was an assistant free to serve you. Security stopped you from entering the store and when an assistant was free they would come and take you from the line and serve you. Then literally escorted you back out the store when you bought your phone.

Really not sure what time to go for, thinking 5am is a bit extreme. I don't mind a bit of a wait, but if your getting there at 5am it's another 3 hours till they actually open the store, plus wait time. But then again if you're first in line nearly you'll be done by half 8.

Do you know what time they opened the doors? I heard at Liverpool One last year they let people into the shopping centre from midnight to queue outside the store. Hoping the Trafford centre does the same with all the hype surrounding the event

Might ring them up next week to check :-)

If the car park only opens at 5am, there may be a queue to get in there!

I'm sure I remember it opening early one time...

Hi there!!, I'm planning to go to the Trafford Centre in launching day as well.

But I have a little problem.

I live in Bowdon and I have no car. How can I get there 5am. to meet up with you guys?. Because I do believe that the bus service won't operated yet at that time.

And according to the history. If people queue-up from 5am. when would they actually get the iPhone?

Thank you and C you guys

Got a reply back from the Trafford Centre Twitter account @Traffordcentre, saying that their doors will open at 6am on Friday but they're not sure what time the store will open.

I think we can safely say the store will open at 8am :-)

btw, feel free to follow me on Twitter to carry on with the pre iPhone 5 build up :-) @Totalkharnage
