I ordered an iPhone 5 from Verizon at midnight PDT, switching from AT&T at the same time. Now I've heard you can request a SIM unlock for international travel, but you must be a customer for 60 days before a phone can be unlocked. Then again, I've also heard you may be able to social engineer customer service into doing it earlier.

Has anyone actually succeeded in doing this?

(This is just for the hell of it. Coincidentally I've got a trip to London a week after the iPhone 5 arrives, but even if I do manage to get it unlocked, I imagine it would be impossible to find a nano-SIM from a value prepaid GSM provider in London. Instead, I plan on bringing my iPhone 4 (which has been unlocked by AT&T) with me, getting a prepaid micro-SIM in London and using that for the week I'm there.)
