So my status at apple says oct 11th after a promised 2weeks shipping. So Walmart rep says their cards came in and only 8 were sold. So I cancelled my apple order on two phones and reserved with Walmart.

Benefits: I'll get the phone on launch, pay $189, pay tax on $189. Yippie!!!!

Even if Walmart didn't have it on launch day it's totally worth the savings in phone price and sales tax! Didn't know this but that's awesome

Yes will save $100 tax. Also they're giving $5 vudu gift card.

I wanted to preorder, but it seems to be only for the 2 year commitment. I wanted to buy it outright. :(

Ok tax was $58 each phone at Apple i bgt 2 phones. Tax on two phone at Walmart will be on the $189 price, as opposed to $600. Not sure why only Walmart charges tax on the subsidized price.

No in California we have to pay tax on the retail value of the phone not the subsidized price. I am not sure how buying the phone at Walmart skirts that rule though. I paid tax on $750 instead of $300 for the 32GB model.

 Bummer! That's crazy, I've never heard of anything like that before. Wow. I paid $30 in taxes on my $450 16GB.

Meh... I only choose Walmart if I need to buy socks, a bag of Cheetos, underwear & condoms at 3am. Otherwise... I'll let the pros at Apple handle my iPhone order.

My billing address is in CA so when I originally ordered they quoted $80 tax but when I had it shipped to New York instead (where I am living) I saved 50%!!

Based on initial supply levels to Walmart stores in past launches, this was, perhaps, not a wise move. I would have waited to cancel the Apple order once I had the phone in hand.

Based on these past levels, don't you think aapl learned from it and allocated them more this time around?
