What the matter with it? I'm finding it exactly like 5 but with some extra features.

Actually this is a good question - I'd like to roll back my OS to 5 also.

Apple Maps sucks - especially in NZ. I also use street view a lot..

So, back on topic -how do I do this?

The dev team literally made a post about this a few minutes ago.

Wait for the new redsn0w. If you are on iPad 3 or 4S (or iPad 2 without iOS4/5 blobs saved) then it's impossible. If you have an older device it's possible with saved blobs. Good luck and be patient though.

Also I forgot to mention it should be possible at time of this posting because the window hasn't closed yet, but that will be closed very soon.

I'm sure google maps won't be long now. Maybe 2 - 4 weeks until it appears in the AppStore.

As said elsewhere, in Apple's infinite wisdom, they have decided no one will be able to downgrade firmware, unlike every single other electronic device ever made... I guess that is too high of a level of thinking for us though, so I appreciate the company making easy, I mean extremely difficult decisions for me!

At least the Ipad 3 got SIRI :D

I cant wait to get home, update to iOS 6, then ask stupid questions for SIRI! Whose with me?!:apple:

I would go with you, but I only have an ancient iPad 1 from a whole two years ago. I used to have Siri, but Apple took it off the app store and disabled the app. Thanks Apple! They make life so much easier!! I will certainly buy a new iPad now, even though my old iPad used to do the same thing fine!

It's not impossible at all. If you have saved the 5.1 update from before then it is totally possible, just maybe not for the run of the mill user.

Download iOS 5.1.1 manually here.

Put phone into DFU/Restore mode, "Alt" + click Restore and browse to downloaded 5.1.1 ipsw file.

Trying to downgrade now, desperately.
iOS 6 is fugly. Maps are annoying. Tried getting bus directions like I would normally try, but was directed to the App Store to buy a bus routing App.

Okay, no.

fr4c, wordoflife - just registered with the site to say thanks a mill for your posts - I upgraded to iOS 6 last night, and then discovered the horrible mess that's the new Music Player.

Fortunately I found this page, downloaded 5.1.1 and was able to downgrade - not a moment too soon from the sounds of it. I'm keeping the ipsw in a very safe place :apple:

I did it successfully yesterday.

I say successfully, but I lost some saved application data. And oddly enough, the Apple YouTube app disappeared.

Downloading the ipsw file we speak. Thank you guys for the idea and information! :)

If I use tiny umbrella, can I always revert back to 5.1.1 no matter what Apple does?

If you have a A4 device or lower, yes you can always downgrade. if you have a A5 device, it's will be impossible to downgrade from 6 to 5.1.1 once apple stops signing 5.1.1, which could happen any minute.. As of this post Apple is still signing 5.1.1, so those of you with an a5 device running iOS 6, if you want to remain in the JB scene, you better downgrade ASAP.e good news for A5 people is if you have your blobs saved it will always be possible to Restore to 5.1.1 using Redsnow as long as the device has 5.1.1 installed. But once Apple stops signing that firmware

There's an official method of downgrading actually.. However, if you do this, your existing iOS6 backup will NOT work. You'll be starting from scratch (or grab an old backup from timemachine)..

Here's how..

Be a developer on iPhone. It's only $99.

Buy a Mac.

Install Xcode on said Mac.

Enable developer mode on iPhone.

Acquire old ipsw

Tell Xcode to downgrade iPhone to version of iOS you have as an ipsw file.

That's it. Works like a charm. I've done it a number of times to debug something I was playing with.
