Notes not syncing

Could someone explain how Notes works in iOS6?

I was assuming all the Notes I have made on my iPhone would now be synced to my iPad after turning Notes on in the iCloud option in Settings. Instead, on my iPad it has asked for an @iCloud.com address? On my iPhone when I turned Note syncing on, it didn't ask for any type of @icloud.com address.

I then logged into the iCloud.com website and none of my notes have synced there either.

Any idea what is going on?

Got it working between web based iCloud, and iPad now. Not showing up on my iPhone at all.

On iPad, in Setttings > Notes > Default Account says iCloud
On iPhone, in Settngs > Notes > Default Account says On my iPhone, and I cannot change it.

Any help would be massively appreciated.
