Does it take for ATT to realize I have my upgrade avail again. I am feeling wide awake and might go stop by my local ATT around 2-3 am and if I can find a simple line, I might just wait.

If you order from ATT - and buy in ATT store they should be able to cancel it right there - if your phone has not shipped.

If apple is involved may take 24+ hours

At this point, no one knows for sure. It could take as much as 24-48 hours, or so I've heard. I'm in the same boat. :(

EDIT: FWIW, I did call Apple and ask, and the CSR told me "24 hours."

October 10th. I wasn't going to get the phone, then I went to casino, won 400 bucks, and decided, hey, its a free upgrade now lol

I've heard in most cases it's instant. I'm hoping that's the case as I may be able to go to my Apple Store tomorrow. Depends on how early I can get there if I decide to pull the trigger on the cancellation.

Why do you want to cancel? Do you have a later delivery date?

Was fed up with AT&T and made the mistake of preordering Verizon but had second thoughts about losing my AT&T unlimited data. By the time I made up my mind and ordered an AT&T phone from Apple.com, I ended up with an October 21-28 delivery window.

What sucks even more is I'm getting a Verizon phone delivered tomorrow, but I'm refusing delivery. Oh the humanity! :(

doubt it - several people are reporting that apple reps have told them 24+ hours - that is what the apple rep told me.

If i go to the line, see its an easy line to beat, i might cancel the order and go wait in it.

If you call *639# it says your upgrade is back already?

Just got off the phone with AT&T and asked exactly this. She said that if it didn't restore the upgrade then the reps at the store would see that the pre-order was cancelled and could do it manually.

I'm betting they would, as they get commission for renewing contracts.

My pre-order is through Apple though. Can they even see I ordered it through Apple if it hasn't even charged my CC yet

Yes they can. The girl I just spoke to minutes ago was able to see my order. Though, you'd have to cancel it.

She told me to go to the store tomorrow, see if they have any iPhones available for you and then you can have them cancel it, or you can do it yourself from your phone. Once they see it was cancelled, they'll either have the upgrade OR they can manually do it by calling customer care.

Well, I just got off the phone with Apple and they said it sometimes takes the carriers up to a few days to reset upgrade eligibility. They suggested I keep my preorder and not waste my time lining up...

I'm still gonna go check it out. I'm kind of located out in the boonies. I'm hoping there will only be a few people in line, like maybe 10.

I did it today. I had a preorder from apple and cancelled because BB called me with confirmation of my backup preorder. As soon as I cancelled from Apple, I checked eligibility, all was clear. I was hesitant because I had 2 different answers direct from AT&T, one said up to 72 hours and the other said it would be instant. Good Luck.

Did you order AppleCare? I had to call and speak directly with a rep at 1-800-MYAPPLE to do the cancellation.

AppleCare was marked as "Completed" since it is not actually shipped. This means it won't let you cancel it, and it won't let you cancel the phone without also canceling AppleCare... a bit annoying, but the rep was quite helpful on the phone!

Just curious if you went to purchase at Apple store or AT&T. I went to AT&T this morning and they told me if I canceled my Apple pre order it could take 24-48 hours before the reset hit their system. They had plenty in stock and now I'm kicking myself for pre-ordering.

Thanks. My status just updated to preparing for shipment and I can't cancel if I wanted to. Hopefully this thing will ship next week and not Oct 5th.
