Here was mine:

Motorola V300. MAN I loved that thing!!

Not as much as I love my 4S now tho. . . .

Everyone had a Nokia come on. They were indestructible too!

Had this Nextel has my first cell phone. I was in 8th grade. My parents were big on the Walkie-Talkie feature, especially my dad. Damn, those phones were annoying.

Motorola 8200, sometime around 1996

I just started at T-Mobile in Germany and bought it used off someone, the battery lasted for about 2 hours in standby and 5 minutes when being used...

this was followed by the Nokia 2110, Nokia 3210, Alcatel One Touch Easy, Siemens C35, Alcatel OT 510, Motorola V555, Razr, Blackberry Pearl, iPhone4.

Nokia 2180 - great phone for self defense, and for driving in framing nails.
You should have seen this beast with the "extended battery" - it could, quite literally, be used to jump start things.

2001 Nokia 5210 - Still works today, I remember buying green, red & blue cases for these as you could literally slide the innards out of the casing.

LG VX6000. Terrible reception and a crappy camera but you could change the pattern of the colored lights on the outside

Anyone remember that unique "start up tone" all old-school phones made?

Motorola, Nokia, Audiovox, Qualcomm, all made the same "power on tone" - and then that just died off shortly before digital networks went mainstream.

Was there a purpose to that tone? When I hear it, I visualize expensive hardware, as back then, those phones cost some serious cake to use. But I could imagine it served some actual purpose, why would different manufacturers copy it otherwise?
