So disappointed with apple right now. My dads first iphone and the Camera is giving him these purple hazes 80% of the time. My dad loves taking photos, he got the 64gb version. I can't believe apple wouldn't test it before releasing it to the public. I'm so mad and my dad probably won't ever get an apple product again.

Apple needs to fix this!

I tried mine after reading about it and I can reproduce the problem but only holding it a very specific way, trying to make it happen. I looked back at all the pictures I've taken so far and none of them have the purple.

You think my dads holding it wrong?

The same thing happens on the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4. It's just the lens glare. If it's such a problem, return it and get a replacement. Takes all of 10 minutes.

can you post some of the pics so we can see what you're talking about?

No, all I'm saying is that personally, I've only had it happen when trying to make it happen. Angling the phone the right way until I see purple. All my normal pictures are fine.

Same here. Those who experience it under normal experiences can get warranty service or, idunno invest in a Lumia.

Happens to me if there's a light source on the edge of the photo, but correcting my angle fixes it. I don't see this being a huge issue, I thought it was actually a common effect on lenses. Chromatic aberration?

I think you need to put things into perspective, exchange it, move on. Focus on the things in life that are important.

OP: Definitely get it returned and a camera that makes him happy. No insult to your dad but I went from carburetor / distributer to that big one piece thing under the hood. But I still expect the dependability of two screws even when I get something with a computer chip. This is cutting edge technology and considering the number they've shipped, even the large number of complaints on the forums is a tiny percentage.

I expect colored lens flares on coated lenses. I'm not the "pics or it didnt happen guy" but can you post some pics? (And be ready for the comments). I upgraded to the 4S and will probably upgrade to the 5 specifically for the camera improvements and I'm interested in the behavior. Or I can probably find some on-line.

Disregard the pic request. Plenty of examples out there. :)

I have this problem too. Maybe its the new sapphire crystal

Here is an article detailing the problem.

This has always been around, but it is more pronounced on the iPhone 5.

This was taken with a 4S.
