You can use any web browser, just drop the file on your browser icon in the dock and watch it.

If you have Adobe ImageReady you can see each frame individually, as well as play the whole thing. Not sure what other apps let you do this.
GifBuilder, an old application I stumbled across the other day, will also "play" the gif either continuous or step by step.

Quicktime can also play animated GIFs.
A bit off-topic, but is there any way to prevent Safari from doing the animation from animated GIFs? (I want it to show the first/whatever frame).
Animations makes it nearly impossible for me to read some pages (a lot of people have animated avatars on macrumors, for exemple).
Yes, I browse with java and plug-ins disabled. Animated GIFs are the last problem I can't get rid of (no option to disable them in Safari).

I really can't read anything if there's animation on the screen. I have to right-click so the animations stop, and then I can read. I actually browse with java and plug-ins disabled for that reason.
It's even listed as a mistake of web design on Jakob Nielsen's website.
