My LTE isn't always this horrible, but it's nowhere near as good as I was hoping.

This is around Long Beach.

It's because you're in SoCal.

Damn AT&T doesn't have LTE anywhere in the entire state of CO--all the other major providers do.

Still better than my iPhone 3GS's HSPA 500ms latency 200Kb/s down and 50Kb/s up.

uploading videos etc to dropbox has been amazing on LTE. so much faster than home wifi at 2mpbs up... 15-20 mbps up is awesome.

If HSPA+ streams were a consistent 12mbps I would switch from unlimited vzw to unlimited at&t for $50 a month in a heartbeat, 12mbps is still faster than my home internet.

I get that same speed with 1 bar of LTE on Verizon. 2 bars and I'm already at double that speed. 3 bars and I'm nearing 30Mbps down. 4-5 bars and I get anywhere between 32-45Mbps. LTE what?

We get good HSPA+ speeds in Philly so I keep LTE off most of the time to conserve battery.

Is LTE faster? Yes but not signigantly faster for me to be on it all the time. HSPA+ gets the job done well.

Thumb resize.

Well I guess not having a iphone 5 isn't a bad thing ... xD
though I'd probably get 20Mb/s+ in my area

Oh, I turned lte off to see how 4G was in the same spot. Got about half what you see in my results.
