Mouse only reacts after second click

I'm having a very weird problem. I constantly have to click twice on objects to interact with them, similar to the way as if the program would be inactive. So the moment I'm typing this text, I actually have to click twice on the smiley icon to include it in this text.

I'm using 10.6.8 and a Logitech mouse. The problem occured, when I installed the latest security update a couple of days ago and to be frank, it's driving me nuts!

Any idea what this is about or how I can solve it? Maybe uninstall the last security update?

USB wireless. Hopefully that update is gonna cure that horrible error. Thanks for letting me know.
