Hello. I have had a very difficult time trying to figure out this answer with asking Apple reps and doing loads of research online. I would like to purchase an iPhone 4s in the US. I may move to S. Korea in the future and want to be able to use it with a local carrier there.

I believe I can buy a new/used factory unlocked iphone and everything should be okay - is this correct?

However is it a good idea to buy a cheaper used iphone that is locked to a carrier then jailbreak/unlock it and take it to Korea? Is this feasible and easy enough to do?

Thanks for helping me clear this up.

You need to check the available carriers where you may be moving and see if they are CDMA or GSM.

If GSM you are fine with any factory unlocked iPhone. If CDMA you need to buy from the carrier in Korea.
