Apple should be ashamed of those prices.

But, this is about a big a problem as my wife purchasing a new set of bowls that don't match everything else we own, or buying a new car and complaining that my old set of rims won't fit, or my floppy disks can't be used in my iMac, or my DVDs don't fit in my MacBook, etc. You will always have minor inconveniences when you upgrade anything. |

They should have included one with every iPhone 5.

Whatever happened to letting the people decide ? If Apple don't like the way the people in the EU rule their countries, they are free to try and sell their products elsewhere.

Apple probably made the adapters expensive so people would upgrade their old docks instead of buying cheap adapters for all of their old stuff. lets face it if an adapter was 5 dollars everyone in here would buy one for all their old cables and never upgrade to lightning.

Will it blend?
Also, I will not be satisfied until I see extensive drop and scratch tests. |

I expect we will see the new connector on the 7 in iPad when it comes out...like the iphone5, its probably what allows the mini-ipad to be as thin and small as it will probably turn out to be

Apple won't pay more than 1$ per chip. It's a giant ripoff as always with Apple cables, SSDs, RAM and such forth. But an easy way to lock out aftermarket-cables like from dx.com |

You'll see it on any of Apple's portable devices now, it's the new standard dock connector.

Oww come are you guys morons... This is the fifth reaction like this. YOU NEED TO DEVELOP IT BEFORE YOU CAN MAKE IT!! <------ this cost money... you know, like paying for developers and testing and prototypes and patents. Please... keep it real guys. It's not like USB where you buy a License and you get a description on how to build it. Apple had to develop it from scratch.. This could have taken years... |

Finally! Don't understand why these adapters take so long ... Remember the camera kit for the iPad?

My understanding is the lightning cable has a chip so that it can identify its intended purpose on the fly and redirect data or current to the right pins.
In my simplistic and uneducated view if you only wanted a cable to charge, then why wouldn't it work to have a pinned-out cable with lightning end on it that was pre-wired to only supply power and that is the only use for it and the cost is less?

Seeing how much money Apple makes on every iPhone, I wish they would have included this with every iPhone 5. Having only 1 cable for a phone, and about 7 of the old cables, is horrible. And having to wait 1-2 weeks for a second, is bizarre. I just wish they cared about the consumer a little bit more, and less about how much money they pocket. But, ha, that'll never happen. haha.

Apple didn't abandon Firewire when it was dropped from the iPod back in 2001ish (date is probably wrong. Can't really remember).
