The WSJ is saying Apple is going to have 10m iPad mini's ready for x-mas. That's double the estimated number of Kindle Fire that Amazon ordered.

A new report from the Wall Street Journal claims that Apple is preparing more than 10 million iPad Minis for a fourth quarter launch later this year.

According to "some component suppliers" who spoke to the Wall Street Journal, they've received enough orders to make the aforementioned amount by the end of the year. Those same suppliers said that's double the amount of orders placed by Amazon for the fourth quarter for its Kindle Fire tablet.

I raised WSJ 10m with this report of Foxconn and Pegatron has capability of 5m a month. They probably started production a couple months before the launch. So Apple will have at least 15m units Ipad mini capacity for 4Q12. My guess is that if Ipad mini has 3G/LTE capability, it will be supply constrained in 4Q and it will sell around 15m unit. If it is wifi only, may be 10m is the right sales number...

Foxconn and Pegatron are expected to assemble 5 million iPad minis a month. While 5 million iPads minis a month may seem like a large number, only time will tell if demand for the smaller iPad — which isn’t even officially on the market yet — will outstrip supply.
