Finally I have arrived.....
I searched the forum but I could not find the thread (I vaguely remember someone commented on this in the middle of some other threads). I have un-used 256 MB ram from my 12" PB and 15" PB as they are upgrated to Crucial and OWC RAMs. The specs on Apple web site says both iBook and PB use PC2700/333 MHz/DDR SDRAM. Does this mean I can use an extra 256 MB I harvested from my PB for the current iBook model?

All PowerBook G4s use PC2700 SO-DIMMs (DDR333 SDRAM SO-DIMM). While the iBooks use PC2100 SO-DIMMs.

However i got this of the Apple site.

Double data rate SDRAM is closely correlated with your computer's processor. Use either PC2100 DDR 266 or DDR333 SO-DIMMs for 133Mhz system bus iBook. You should purchase DDR-SDRAM SO-DIMMs that have been tested and approved for your system. If you don't purchase memory directly from Apple, be sure to check with the third-party manufacturer to verify compatibility before purchase.

I believe the iBook can accept you Powerbook ram and the iBook will simply slow down the performance from a 2700 to a 2100 :) Just have to wait until another member can help you :)

I just ordered two pc2700 sticks and put one in my new 15" PB and one in my wife's new iBook. So yes you can use pc2700 in both, and you can accually use pc2100 in both too. The PB will only be able to go at pc2100 speed when pc2100 is inserted.

Yeah, but I don't think that's a good idea. If you have a 12" PB, one of the RAM chips is soldered on, and if it's PC2700, and you insert a PC2100 stick of RAM in the other slot, it may cause trouble.

Get the faster PC2700 RAM and let it scale down when you insert it into your iBook. RAM speed doesn't scale upwards.

True but I think the point is that the PC2700 DDR333 chip can scale down, so you might as well buy the "faster" chip regardless.
