I just got my new Mac Mini today.
This is my first Mac of any kind, so forgive me is this is incredibly stupid.
I downloaded AOL Desktop for Mac.
When I try to sign on, it tells me there is no broadband connection and tries to send me to set up a dial up connection.
But I do have a broadband connection.
Having no trouble getting online in Safari and Chrome.
And I'm posting this from the new Mini, so obviously I have a connection.
I have searched and searched every help page I can find.
No luck finding any solution yet.
Nobody else I know uses a Mac, so I hope somebody here can help.

Yes I know AOL is dumb, but I need to be able to use it.

Don't apologize for using AOL, if your comfortable with it go for it. I have not seen their desktop for years but is there a setting that calls out the type of connection?

Yes you can get pretty much all of your aol from their web site login too, but it should be working both ways.

You don't need that software. Just go to the AOL site and login.

I do need that software.
I need the desktop to get into the chat rooms.
They may be a stupid waste of time, but I like them.
You can not access them through aol.com
It's the one thing you can't do from there.

If you are running OS X 10.8 or higher AOL Desktop will not work. I'm running it on my old Macbook G4 with 10.5.8. It is one of the few supported programs that are PPC compatible. It is the only supported browser that I can find that still supports flash for PPC. You could try to download the AIM client. It allows entry into chat rooms and also allows linking to Facebook, Lifestream, Twitter & others. You could try Adium also. It is a messenger type aggregator that allows for chat and also offers encryption. Hope this helps
