skeuomorphism isn't getting Scott out.
Over-promise-under-delivery of Siri and Maps is. |

I'm initially skeptical about Ive doing iOS, and I'm definitely not excited about seeing more of him in those awful product spots (what we did, was....to completely....just rethink what it _means_ to....make a computer).
But I'll be happy if the main apps and UI get cleaned up. |

In a surprise move, beleaguered Apple has hired back Scott Forstall as interim CEO and purchased his mobile OS company. Forstall promises to hold the position until a CEO can be found. Apple fans rejoice in the streets like it is the second coming.

iOS 5 had more core OS "developer" features than any previous iOS. iOS 6 didn't seem to contain much of either (consumer or developer), which makes you wonder wtf the iOS team was doing this year. The springboard is where Apple needs to focus their attention. While easy to use, it's become a relic compared to other mobile operating systems. I feel like Forstall (and likely others) have been holding the springboard back for fear it won't be user friendly if it contains live tiles, widgets, etc. The springboard is the face of iOS. It needs an overhaul. My suggestions? Get rid of the multitasking bar. Add expose. Add dashboard widgets. Add stacks and animated icons. Notification Center needs to be reorganized and more useful (I know a lot of iPhone users that don't even know it exists). Kill the linen background. By the way, with all the Forstall bashing (and I've joined in too), he should get a lot of credit for the creation of both Mac OS X and iOS. He even was a lead designer on the the Aqua interface. Regarding Aqua, I do like what has happened with Aqua over the years. With Leopard, it became much more mature and modern (and Forstall reportedly managed that Leopard team). I would love to see that come to iOS. I feel like iOS in where Mac OS X was at 10.3 or 10.4 and needs a 10.5/10.6 to push it on into the next five years. Good riddance to skeuomorphism.

Their inner world is starting to crack.
Soon they will have no choice but to recycle the same tired old Mobile OS with shiny new hardware. (Oh , nevermind....they already do that) Well Soon they will get so full of themselves that they damage relationships with all their manufacturing partners and service providers ( Oh wait , I forgot about Samsung and Google ) Hmmmm, trouble in paradise ?

I hate Address book and Game Center. But I love the look of other applications, including the leather in Calendar.

I also posted this in the thread that originally broke this news....
I'm not too thrilled that Forstall is gone as I actually like him. I thought he had great charisma at the keynotes and enjoyed his stage presence, it kind of reminded me of Steve. However, I wasn't entirely a fan of where iOS was headed so I'm glad that responsibility has fallen to the OS X team. --- In addition, I definitely was not a fan of skeuomorphism. It was a terrible idea even if Steve Jobs himself supported it. So I'll be glad to see the UI both in OS X and iOS changed to where they make sense on the device. Lastly, with Forstall gone, will we see Apple change "OS X" back to "Mac OS X" or will they stick with the strategy to unify OS X and iOS but in a much more tasteful manner? |

The guy is basically being described as a cancer within Apple's locker room, with a me-first attitude. Why wouldn't anyone willingly take that on? Besides, it's not like Google's at a loss for new ideas, more so Apple, in fact.
