Agree that it will have an effect on the shuffle market.

I bet we will see reduced prices on the Shuffle soon. Maybe something like $70(512MB) and $120(1GB).

Very very nice. Love the black one. Super sleek design. Better than the awful phone that Motorola came up with.

The Nano's look great. But I'm very disappointed that they've d/c'ed the Minis. The Minis are awesome with the aluminum and coloring.

The nano is cool, but note it's more expensive than the mini.

Bad. Not that I care, but every girl in my school prefers the color of a mini to the sleekness of a full iPod. I'm not sure it's a good idea to kill the "iconic" mini. Other than that it's awesome, albeit stretched. Hopefully we see this in more colors at some point.

I'm really bummed the mini's are gone..... They were so awesome .... But I love the nano notheless. I just wish they could have kept the mini or trashed the shuffle instead of cutting the mini. The mini has a look no other iPod has. Gosh, now my old blue color 4GB mini is going to be really obsolete. Might have to go for the white 4GB nano. Gosh, I have a 2 year-old eMac (running on Panther) and an old mini. I feel so in the 1700's.

I see the Shuffle having these benefits over the nano:

- Can use as a Flash drive --- no extra cables to carry.

- Sports applications -- easier to hold in your hand while jogging.

- Considerably cheaper -- especially the 512MB model. Which is all you need for exercising.

- Easier to use controls -- can use without looking. Also, easier to hold and use at the same time due to the control positioning.

However, I do realize that the iPod nano will cut into the Shuffle's market somewhat so that is why I expect a discount in the near future.

I am sure Apple will be monitoring the sales figures closely.

Completely. The shuffle looks like a complete panic move by Apple now - was the shuffle released purely because they couldn't do anything better before MWSF in January?

Anyway, Apple now have the high end flash market nailed. Love it.

I disagree. I happily take my Shuffle to the gym, where it gets bounced around, sweated on, etc. I'm not sure I'd be willing to do the same with the Nano. They're for different markets, but the Shuffle certainly still has a place.

Head phone jack is excellent

Just read a few of you not happy with the headphone jack. Well, take your iPod in the control grip, and put it in your pocket without adjusting your grip and be careful of the headphone jack....you don't want to damage it....because your jack is on the top! Now put it on the bottom and problem solves.

Nah. I would never spend $200 on an iPod. That's why I have a shuffle. I only use it once or twice a week, so I couldn't justify that kind of expense. I imagine there are a lot of people like me.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

Scrap the popular and many coloured min for this!! I have a 20gb bought for £190 only £20 more than the 4GB nano. What a joke!!! May look nice but applae need urgent updates to their higher end line......without video capability PSP (£179) and creative video players will eat into apple. The ipod phone is ugly but will quickly catch up market share as many people would be happy with 10 albums on the go at any time.....i have a feeling in time motarola phone will infact shift more units as part subsidised by phone networks......

This thing looks hot. Other can just cry, because they know he is the winner. Nice to see that Apple is moving away from the brushed metal design with iTunes 5.
It is a bit of topic, but I say Leopard will be sans brushed metal.

Like other handheld devices, iPods now face the tradeoff between the convenience of smaller and smaller sizes, but with the associated small viewing areas.

If any size and form factor was technically possible to manufacture, just how small would we want an iPod with a screen to be?

Crude mock-up to illustrate the issue:
