iPad lineup?
Currently product lineup:
iPad mini 16GB: $329 32GB: $429 64GB: $529 +Cellular 16GB: $459 32GB: $559 64GB: $659 iPad 2 16GB: $499 +Cellular 16GB: $529 iPad 16GB: $499 32GB: $599 64GB: $699 +Cellular 16GB: $629 32GB: $729 64GB: $829 I believe Apple should have taken the less is more approach. Keep the iPad (4th gen pricing) But they should have killed iPad 2 and made the iPad mini the budget iPad. iPad mini 16GB: $299 +Cellular 16GB: $359 iPad 16GB: $499 32GB: $599 64GB: $699 +Cellular 16GB: $629 32GB: $729 64GB: $829

In technology, smaller is usually pricier. The iPad 2 is the budget tablet (but still not cheap) designed to get people into the ecosystem. I think they are expanding their product line a bit too much, a la RIM. You gotta keep it tight and exclusive. Weird how they got it right and now they're not.

Apple will probably settle into having two versions of the Mini and iPad for sale.

So basically your idea is to knock $30 off the price of the 16GB mini and kill off the 32GB and 64 GB mini.
I don't see how this benefits Apple or anyone who wants more than 16GB in a mini.

Exactly. I would never buy a 16GB iPad anything.

I'm not seeing how eliminating the 32/64GB mini's makes it easier for Apple to sell the 16 at a lower price, if anything I would think just the opposite would be true. The 32/64 probably don't sell in the volume that the 16 does but they do earn a higher margin. I don't think you can make the assumption that all of us who purchased the 32/64 would still have purchased the 16 if that was all that was available. So now you've not only eliminated your higher margin models but your overall sales volume is lower. I guess you could make the argument that loss in sales volume would be made up by all those who passed on the mini because they thought it was priced $30 to high, but I have a hard time believing a $30 price drop would have resulted in that much of a sales increase

It would be marketed as the budget tablet for people who want something cheap, people who want the 32GB or 64GB would get the iPad with Retina.

It would be better if Apple had only iPad mini and iPad. iPad mini has similar specs as iPad 2 so it would make sense that it was the budget iPad for Women and children.
